The West Highland Way follows the eastern shores of Loch Lomond and passes several other lochs and rivers. Whether you are an experienced open water swimmer and want to take advantage of these opportunities or just fancy dipping your toes in to cool off after a long day walking, it’s essential that you’re well prepared before getting in the water.
People can get into difficulty even in shallow water and the water in lochs can change depth suddenly and unexpectedly, sometimes very close to shore with steep drops.
You can find more advice – including the Water Safety Code in several languages – on the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park website.
